Crockett County Commissioners Court

Ozona—The Crockett County Commissioners Court gathered to discuss 18 agenda items during its monthly meeting on Jan. 8. 

The Commissioners Court approved of multiple donations. The library received a donation of $1,000 from O L Boies. The Fire Department received $100 from the Chamber of Commerce as well as $3,650 from SEM Operating Co. LLC. 

Next, the Road Department requested raising the limit on their credit card due to a rise in fees on equipment and materials. This was approved, raising the card limit from $5,000 to $10,000. 

Sheriff Alejandro requested bids for license plate readers in December of 2023. The bids were opened today. Alejandro said the department requires these readers to better correspond with the Border Patrol concerning illegal border crossings.

A bid from ThunderCat Technology for $65,321.57 was approved. 

Jennifer Holmsley, a librarian, expressed concerns after giving the Library Report. The staff of the library have requested panic buttons to be installed in the building. The staff has raised concerns about people wandering into the library and would like a way to keep the staff and the public safe. The commissioners have considered this and will discuss it in a later meeting. 

Opening the bids for re-paving 6-7 miles of County Road 207 was tabled as the bids have not come through yet. 

Next on the agenda was opening the bids for new fuel containers, which was also postponed due to the lack of bids. 

County Judge Tambunga submitted the Guardian Security Services “Bronze Package” for quarterly maintenance of the courthouse and annex buildings. 

Motorola and TxDOT representatives spoke about upgrading the current first responders’ radio system. According to the TxDOT representative, TxDOT will cover most of the costs of this upgrade.

The Commissioners Court took no action on the proposal to upgrade the radio system, pending more information. 

The county-wide burn ban will not be reinstated at this time.
