Arrangements for the entertainment of between 75 and 100 visitors from 25 West Texas towns expected here for the conference called by the West Texas Chamber for representatives of towns in District 8 and 9 to be held here next Thursday at noon are being made by civic leaders. The visitors will have luncheon at the Hotel Ozona at noon, during which they will be entertained by musical numbers presented by local entertainers.
Following the luncheon, if agreeable to Chamber officials, the meeting will adjourn to the High School auditorium where the program will follow. Local arrangements were made for the meeting in the auditorium to permit more local people who are interested in the matters to be brought up to attend.
A member of the state Highway Commission, possibly Harry Hines chairman, will discuss the future of highway construction in the state, and particularly in West Texas. Other speakers will discuss the proposed constitutional amendments to be voted on by the people of Texas on August 24. A representative of the WPA will be another speaker, explaining the various phases of the new Works Progress Administration set-up in this state.

A large number of visitors from nearby towns, both contestants and spectators, are expected to be in Ozona for a weekend stay for Ozona’s annual summer celebration Saturday and Sunday of this week. Since Ozona hotels and rooming houses are full as a result of the influx of new residents here in recent years plus the usual transient population, visitors here this weekend may find it difficult to find a place to stay overnight.
An appeal has been issued by officials of the Fair Association for the cooperation of Ozona people in making room for the visitors. If you have an available room where one or more visitors might spend the night Friday or Saturday, you are asked to notify some member of the association or leave word at the Ozona Boot & Saddlery.

County Judge Houston Smith presided at the first session of the newly created Crockett County Court Monday and heard pleas of guilty from two defendants charged with first offense driving while intoxicated. Manuel Herrera of Ozona and Lem F. Johnson of Andrews each received sentences of three days in the county jail and fines of $50 on pleas of guilty to the DWI charges.
Johnson was charged following a highway crash 23 miles south of Ozona on July 23. A car driven by Johnson was in collision with one in which Mr. and Mrs. Lee Simmons of Philadelphia, Pa. were riding. Both cars were badly damaged but nobody was injured. Herrera was arrested east of Ozona on Highway 290 by Highway Patrolman Moore.
