October 10, 1935
Sheriff Willis was the recipient of a new “six shooter” the other day given by a friend of the Crockett officer, H. B. Cox, of San Angelo. The new gun is attractively embellished and is silver plated. Thieves who stole the Ozona officer’s car a few days ago and left it near Kerrville, took the Sheriff's gun from the automobile.
October 11, 1945
Under recommendation made by the Public Buildings Branch of the Federal Work Agency to Congress, Ozona would share in a 98 million dollar nationwide public buildings construction program with the building of a new post office building here, according to information contained in a letter from Congressman R. E. Thomason to Postmaster James E. Kersey of Ozona. Purchase of a site and construction of a post office at Ozona at a cost of $95,000 is recommended in the report of the Federal Works Agency, Mr. Thomason informed.
October 6, 1955
Ozona will spread the welcome mat Saturday for its exes, ex-students, ex-teachers and ex-Ozonans in general, for the third homecoming celebration sponsored by the Ex-Student Association of Ozona High School, organized in 1949 at the first homecoming celebration. The day's festivities will include a program in the high school auditorium, a barbecue dinner in the park, a parade, open house in the schools and winding up with a dance at the country dub. The Friday night football game featuring the Ozona Lions against Rankin has been designated the homecoming game and many of the visiting exes are expected to arrive in time for the game.
October 7, 1965
Lawrence Janes of Janes Funeral Home announced purchase of the Cody Funeral Home this past week. Included in the transaction was all equipment, the funeral home, the residence and the entire block on which it is located, property formerly owned by Mrs. Myrtle Mitchell. Mr. Janes said that moving of furnishings and equipment began Wednesday from his former business location next to the Ranch Drug. He will move his family into the residence as soon as some remodeling is finished.
October 9, 1975
OZONA LION FOOTBALL QUEEN is Miss Kathy Sewell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rip Sewell and Ozona High School cheerleader. Kathy was chosen by vote of the team and officially crowned during ceremonies before the homecoming game Friday night. Escorting her is Lion captain Lonnie Martinez.
