Crockett County—The Crockett County Soil and Water Conservation District announced the winners of its annual sixth-grade Conservation Poster Contest during an awards presentation May 6.

This year’s contest theme was “Soil. Where It All Begins,” encouraging students to explore the importance of soil conservation and natural resources through artwork and creative expression.

Prior to the awards presentation, Jack Baggett conducted a conservation-themed question-and-answer session with students.

The 2026 contest winners were:

  • First place — Dalexia Hernandez
  • Second place — Emalyn Larson
  • Third place — Lucas Youngblood
  • Honorable mention — Jordyn Tinney.
Participants were recognized for their thoughtful interpretations of the contest theme and their efforts promoting awareness of conservation issues.

Ozona Bank, a longtime supporter of the program, will display the top four posters in its lobby so community members can view the students’ work.

Organizers expressed appreciation for local teachers who incorporated the project into classroom activities and helped students participate in conservation education.

The Soil and Water Conservation District also thanked Wool Growers for helping sponsor the competition.
