Martin Brock Jones Jr

Martin Brock Jones Jr. of Ozona, Texas, died peacefully in his ranch-home on June 25, 2026, beside his wife of over 60 years, at the age of 88.

Brock, as he was known to all, was born in Houston, Texas on December 22, 1937, to Martin Brock Jones Sr. and Bernice Jones (née Bailey). Following World War II, the family moved to the Bailey ranch in Crockett County.

Brock attended school in Ozona. Upon graduating high school in 1956, Brock attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1960 and returned to Ozona, where he ranched. He briefly worked as a teacher in the community school of Pandale, a time he would always remember fondly.

In 1964, Brock began law school at the University of Texas, and in 1966, Brock would marry Ann Camille Adams. One year later, in 1967, Brock graduated from UT Law School and served in the Texas Attorney General’s office and the judiciary in Austin over the next 15 years, welcoming their son Hamiliton (Martin) Brock in 1968 and daughter Margaret Camille in 1972.

The family would return to Ozona in 1982, with Brock intending to ranch and no longer pursue a legal career. But, as fate would have it, he was appointed state district judge of the 112th district of the State of Texas, serving Crockett, Sutton, Pecos, Reagan, and Upton counties for the next 24 years, “retiring” in 2006. He would go on to serve 10 years as a visiting senior judge and mediator throughout west Texas before actually retiring in 2016. He would spend the remainder of his life raising cattle with his wife and daughter and enjoying his great grandchildren at the ranch.

While known throughout west Texas for his career as a jurist, Brock took great joy in many hobbies and passions like hunting, fishing, music, the lore and history of west Texas, and marksmanship to name a few. He enjoyed yearly fishing trips to the coast with family and lifelong friends, dune buggy misadventures, and travelling with Camille.

Above all, his greatest joy lay with his family. Everyone enjoyed time with him at the ranch, at the river, and feeding cows in “Dad Dad’s old truck”, which was a multi-generational activity involving his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in the last years of his life. Brock’s birthday was a wonderful event each year where his sister and brother along with their families and his family would gather with many friends to celebrate him and the Christmas season. He and Camille made a home that was the gathering place of the family, where all would come together to the living room or around the dining room table to listen and laugh along with his stories and enjoy her cooking. Brock was famous for his storytelling. He could make his memories come alive for all of us from his imaginary brothers that he left under a bridge in Louisiana to his high school days to the endless tales of adventures (and misadventures) with many.

Brock is survived by his wife of 60 years, Camille Adams Jones, daughter Margaret Camille Jones Riquelmy and husband Josh of Ozona, daughter-in-law Tammy McWilliams and husband David, grandsons Martin Brock Jones IV and wife Rosal of San Angelo, and Coulter McWilliams and wife Analisa, also of San Angelo. Brock had five great grandchildren: Camille Marie Jones, Addison Olivia Jones, Martin Brock Jones V, James Declan Jones, and Oliver Montano McWilliams. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Upham and husband Randy, along with nieces Amy Newton and husband Victor, Christa Bolger and husband Barr, Ann Caroline Fogerson and husband Zeph, and nephews, Todd Jones, Chad Upham and wife Krista, Casey Upham and wife Jody, and Clay Garlitz. He is remembered fondly by his great nephews Taylor Newton, Jack Bolger and Brady Bolger, and great nieces, Abby Newton, Caitlynn Manion, Morgan Upham, Audrey Upham, Grace Upham, Emma Jones, and Addison Garlitz.

Brock is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Brock Jones, Sr, and Bernice Jones, brother John Robert (Johnny) Jones and wife Patti, beloved son Martin Brock Jones III, sister-in-law Jane Garlitz and husband Gary, nephew Wade Garlitz, and great niece Chandler Jones.

Services will be held in Ozona on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with a graveside service at 9:30 a. m., a church service at 11 a.m. in the Ozona Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the Crockett County District Courtroom.
