Vic Montgomery, senior back of the Horned Frogs, may carry the burden of the T.C.U. offensive against the Frogs’ traditional enemies, the Baylor Bears in their conference clash in Ft. Worth Saturday afternoon. Montgomery has progressed sensationally this season as a punter. His passing, while not on a par with that of Slingin' Sam Baugh, has been quite effective. Vic worked in the quarter-back role in several games last season but has been holding down the right halfback post so far this year. He, with Baugh, McClure and others of the Frog regular backs were kept out of the mud-sloshing event against Mississippi State in the Cotton Bowl at Dallas last Saturday.

A long-range plan for beautification of Ozona’s downtown city park, a plan which would not entail an exorbitant outlay of money but one which would make the park one of West Texas’ outstanding beauty spots, has been launched by the citizenship of Ozona through their representatives on the community betterment group, the Community Council. The park improvement plan envisioned by the Council calls for an immediate start this fall by removal of all of the dead and dying mulberry trees in the park and possible some additional plantings of pecan trees, a fill of fresh dirt to level and enrich the soil, the installation of sprinkler system and planting of St. Augustin grass next spring.

B.G. Billbrey, local oilfield driller, has the dubious honor of being Crockett County’s first hunting casualty and is recuperating in the Crockett County Hospital from a gun-shot wound in the upper thigh. In anticipation of the deer hunting season coming up, Mr. Billbrey was readying his 30-30 rifle for the hunt one night earlier this week when the gun jammed and in trying to get it loose, he accidently shot himself in the fleshy part of the upper leg, narrowly missing the bone. However, the accident didn’t dim his enthusiasm in the least and he expects to be out of his hospital bed and ready when the first day of the deer hunting season dawns.
