LYNDA FALKNER June 25, 1936 - August 15, 2024
Lynda Carson Falkner peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 15, 2024.
Lynda was born on June 25, 1936, in San Angelo, Texas, the cherished first child of Ermon “B” Carson and Lorine Barker Carson. She married her beloved soulmate, Bob Falkner, on March 22, 1958, and they shared 64 wonderful years together until his passing in 2022.
Lynda was a dedicated scholar and passionate reader from a young age. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class in Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1954 and distinguished herself at Baylor University, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Her creativity and skill were evident as she designed and crafted her own wedding dress as a final project during her senior year at Baylor.
Moving to Ozona, Texas, in 1970, Lynda discovered her true calling in education within the Crockett County Consolidated Common School District (CCCCSD). Balancing her teaching career with raising two children, she pursued further education at Angelo State University, earning her teaching degree. Over the years, Lynda taught 8th grade English, managed the church library, and later focused on sharing her love of reading in middle school before retiring in 1992.
Lynda’s passion for reading extended to her service at the First Baptist Church library, where she meticulously organized donations and frequently added new books, often reading them herself first.
Despite early personal hardships, Lynda possessed unwavering faith and served as the pillar of her family. Her steadfast support and deep faith guided her husband and children through life’s challenges. She was a beacon of strength and love, as evidenced by the inscription in Bob’s bible that read, “Presented by Lynda Falkner, my wife, my love, my all. Without you I would fail.”
Lynda is preceded in death by her dearest husband, Bob Falkner, daughter Debra Kay Meador and her husband Mallory Scott Meador, and her sister Kay Anthony and brother-in-law Wes Anthony.
She is survived by her daughter Sarah Lorine Falkner; her grandchildren, Gregory Dale Johnson, Brittany Nicole Artigues and husband Jeffrey, and great-grandchild, Gavyn Wayne Barcelo. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews who loved her deeply: Cindy Falkner Martin and husband Charles, Ken Falkner, Lorine Anthony David and her husband Vic, David Anthony and his wife Shelley, and John Anthony.
Lynda could often be found in her favorite recliner with a book in hand or preparing lessons for the Ruth Class Sunday School. She treasured her annual “Golden Girls Weekend” with high school friends and enjoyed the playful banter of a secret admirer who sent her a Valentine every year for over 60 years, much to the delight of her teasing husband.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ozona First Baptist Church on September 14, 2024 at 10 a.m. Preddy Funeral Home is entrusted with honoring her wish for cremation.
