August 31, 1944
PFC. Francisco Cardenas, 21, United States Marine Corps, was killed in action in the successful American invasion which threw the Japs out of the island of Guam in the Pacific, a former American naval base seized by the Japs early in the war. This was the information transmitted in a telegram from the War Department received by the family here Wednesday morning. Ptc. Cardenas volunteered for the Marine Corps and was inducted at El Paso in May 1943. He had been overseas for several months. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Herculano Cardenas, he was a ranch worker before going into the service. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Berta, a little over a year old.

August 26, 1954
A new era in travel history, the new “Scenicruiser” bus offers 4-way sightseeing with raised observation deck, huge picture windows, washroom facilities, perfected air conditioning and the world’s smoothest ride. One of these new coaches will be on display in Ozona, Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1954, from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on the south side of the city square. Once in many years, there is a vital change in transportation-one that completely revises all previous standards of travel ease, comfort, luxury. Susa a new era in travel begins now with the Greyhound “Scenicruiser,” most remarkable motor vehicle of the last half century.

August 27, 1964
Ground was broken early this week at the west side site where construction is soon to get under way on the new $125,000 civic center for Ozona, made possible by voter approval at a recent election of a bond issue in that amount for its construction. The preliminary work grading, leveling and filling the lot, donated by Ranchman Dick Henderson as a memorial to the pioneers of Crockett County, is being done with county machinery before the construction contract is awarded.

Lou Ingram shows off a bean grown in her garden. She acquired the seeds in Louisiana, and she is anxious to find out what kind of beans she is growing. Also, she wants to know if the type of bean grows as large anywhere else as it does in Texas.

Judy Reagor makes a donation to the Helping Hands and Senior Citizens’ Center Building project. Len Hillman, member of the Helping Hands Board and AARP president, says the two organizations are working toward establishing a mutually supported structure.
