Ann Shaw passed peacefully from this life to meet her savior on October 8th at the age of 94. She was born on July 21st and was raised in Hot Springs, AR as the only child to Edward L. and May (Smith) Glass where as a young child she lived above their grocery store and boarding house.
Ann met her life mate on a blind date while attending Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. She and Harold shared the same birthday and married on August 23, 1950. After several moves, they settled in Ozona to raise their family in 1956. Ann traveled many miles in the area holding Stanley Home Product parties. She retired from her career as Area Manager but continued to distribute Stanley products from her large inventory for many, many years.
Ann was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she taught youth Sunday School for over 50 years, beginning in 1958, and served on numerous committees. She was a driving force in creating “The FBC Youth Scholarship Fund”.
Ann’s favorite Bible verse is Matthew 19:14, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Through the years, she and Harold opened their home to many of Ozona’s youth for various get togethers, most notably being “First Wednesday” where she fed the high school students on the first Wednesday of each month. Ann loved the young people of our community and especially enjoyed feeding them. While she was able, she never missed a high school football or baseball game but basketball was her favorite sport and she cheered loudest at those games.
Ann showed her love mainly through food, with “First Wednesday”, or by baking brownies for college students home for a weekend, leaving treats on neighbor children’s porches, even frying chicken for friends to eat on the road to out of town football games. Toward the end, she became famous for handing out peppermints to any and everyone who visited her at the Crockett County Care Center.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her son, Dean (Wendy) Shaw of St. Louis, MO; her daughter, Teresa Calvert (Doug) of Simsbury, CT; and her son, Ronald (Rhonda) Shaw of Ozona; grandchildren, Deanna (Jerry) Palagallo, Alyssa (Joe) Clarkin, Kelly (Luke Graham) Shaw, Katherine (Matt) Grosso, William Calvert, Rebekah (Eric) Dominguez, and Regan (Paul) Ritchie. Her great-grandchildren are Avery, Graham, Calvin, Luca, Nico, Jarryn, Easton, Ariane, Kalan, Dalton and Nolan and a baby girl due in January of next year.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Crockett County Care Center for the care and love they showered on her. She truly loved each of you.
Visitation will be Thursday night from 6-8 and her service will be Friday at 10:00 am.
Both will be at the First Baptist Church of Ozona.
It is Ann’s wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements made by Preddy Funeral Home.
