Celia (nee Samaniego) West

Celia (nee Samaniego) West passed away on December 10, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 87. She was born in A Coruña, Spain on December 18, 1936. She moved to San Angelo, Texas in her early 20s. 

Celia studied art in San Angelo. She met her husband Wayne (Cap) West and moved to Ozona where she became a stepmom to 4 children. Celia spoke little English and she would tell you she perfected her speaking by watching soap operas. 

She was an integral part of the community. She was a long standing member of the Garden Club. Celia had a green thumb and loved her flowers. She also was involved in the Ozona Historical Society and was part of the Bridge Club. She loved playing bridge and would spend hours watching tournaments online.

Celia is predeceased by her husband, Wayne (Cap) West, her stepson James West, her mother Eva Vecino Samaniego, her father Joe Samaniego, her brother Jose Samaniego, and her brother Robert James. Celia is survived by her stepson Wesley West, stepdaughter Barbara DeWoody, and step daughter Wilda Won. She is also survived by eight grand children, many great, and great-great grand children, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was blessed by Barbara Dominguez, her best friend and confidant for over 40 years who was by her side taking care, and watching over her.

Honorary pallbearers: Barbara Dominguez, Ricardo Dominguez, Francisco Galvan, Belinda Martinez, Marquita Richarte, Leticia Leal, Vanessa Porras, Melissa Marmolejo, Josie Sanchez, Cassandra Wiley, and Martha Enriquez.

Visitation will be at Preddy’s Funeral Home from 10 a.m, to noon on December 11, 2024.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help at 2 p.m. on December 12, 2024. Internment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
