Ginger Womack Perner

April 21, 2025

Ginger Womack Perner, 74, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025. Ginger was born on August 15, 1950 to Jackie and Yvonne (Vonnie) Womack.
Ginger was the great-great-granddaughter of W.P. and Laura Hoover, the first permanent settlers in Crockett County on the Pecos River in 1881.
Ginger attended Ozona Schools. In 1977, she married Paul C. Perner III, and they began a life of ranching together on the Pecos River. Ginger was very active in the ranching community. She was on the board of directors for the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Association, Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas, and Mohair Council of America. She was also very active in her community being on the board of directors of the Ozona Wool & Mohair and the Crockett County Historical Commission.
Ginger took up the challenge to get ranching into schools by founding the Conservation Roundup, which furnished folders, book covers, and information that was funded all through donations. She also made mohair blankets out of the mohair from the Angora Goats that were raised on her ranch.
Ginger was a part of everything that went on at the ranch, shearing, roundup, feeding animals, and more. The saying goes “don’t trust a skinny cook,” but she was an amazing cook. She enjoyed having family around, especially during the holidays. Thanksgiving was always big at the ranch. Her granddaughter, Katie, even printed a Thanksgiving cookbook with all the recipes.
Ginger and Paul enjoyed traveling together, especially to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Ginger knew everyone. She never meet a stranger.
Ginger was also a pilot, artist and painter, housewife, companion, mother, soulmate, and wife. She was also always the boss.
Ginger is preceded in death by her grandmother Hallie K. Black, and parents Jackie and Vonnie Womack.
Survivors include her sons: Clint Perner and wife Amy, Paul C. Perner, IV (Pablo) and wife Melissa, her grandchildren: Katie Perner, Paul Christian Perner, V (Cinco), and Elizabeth Perner, her sister Diane Womack, her brother Mike Womack, her niece Megan Womack Meek, and nephews: Shane Albers and Ian Brown.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18th at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Preddy Funeral Home in Ozona.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Crockett County Museum, PO Box 1444 Ozona, Texas 76943, or the Crockett County Public Library, PO Box 3030 Ozona, Texas 76943.
