Nearing the end of high school careers, sixteen graduates of the Ozona High School, class of 1935, plunge into graduation week upon completion of most of their school duties this week. First up on the program will be baccalaureate services in the High School auditorium Sunday morning with Rev. Leon M. Gambrell, pastor of the Baptist Church, delivering the sermon to graduates. The baccalaureate program includes the processional, with Miss Maxine Murdock at the piano, a hymn, "All Hail the Power," by the congregation, the invocation by Rev. K. A. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist church, a violin duet by Miss Elizabeth Tillory and Joe Haddon, scripture reading by Rev. Taylor. Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah" by the choir, and the sermon, “The Abundant Life" by Rev. Gambrell, who will also pronounce the benediction, the program closing with the recessional.

Official day of victory over the Hun in Europe -- Tuesday, May 8 --was not an occasion for wild celebration in Ozona. It was, on the other hand, a more than usually quiet day, with the people exchanging bits of information gathered in early morning vigilance at their radio receiving sets and discussing the final phases of the end of the war in Europe. The sobering thought that there still may be months and even years of war in the Pacific against the treacherous Japs, and contemplation of the terrible cost of the victory over the Germans, seemed to preclude in the minds of Ozonans any idea of shouting over the end of the European phase of the war. The day was observed with a special program in the high school auditorium starting at 8 p.m., arranged and sponsored by the Crockett County War Service Committee.

BLAZING DIESEL FUEL CONSUMED THIS TRUCK and traffic on Highway 290 was held up for two to two and a half hours early last Wednesday morning about four miles east of Ozona. The truck, which belonged to Zachry Co., had a full load of fuel, some 500 gallons. It was a complete loss along with the truck. Firemen exhausted the water supply in all trucks and were forced to return to town for more water just about the time they had the blaze under control.
