Lady Lions’ season ends in Regional Championship

by Travis Davidson

Ozona—The Lady Lions traveled to Post to take on the highly ranked Panhandle Lady Panthers (31-3) in the Region 1 Championship on Feb. 20. An intense defensive tone was set at the opening tip and continued until the final buzzer. Throughout the game, no loose ball went uncontested. This typically led to both teams having multiple players on the floor fighting for the ball. The Lady Lions fought fiercely, but the night belonged to the Panthers. Ozona fell to Panhandle 62-32.

“We faced and unfortunately lost to a good team,” sophomore Emily Shaffer said. “This season is a good starting point for the Ozona Lady Lion teams to come.”

The 2025 basketball season for the Lady Lions was quite the season. The team made it to the Regional 1 Championship game, something an Ozona Lady Lion team has not done in 27 years. Returning only 2 players from an Area Champion team, a new coach, and 9 players new to the varsity game, makes this run all that more special. The season featured 2 tournament championship trophies, 2 tournament MVP trophies, Bi-District Champion, Area Champion, Regional Semi-final champions, and a final record of 30-8.
